Job Summary

This position is to provide solution based code enforcement services for the citizens of LaG ra nge. The employee in this position is under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Facilities and Development. The work covers key areas of regulation of construction and development and business in the City. Considerable judgement, a high degree of motivation, the ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision, technical competency, and an ability to resolve code related matters to the satisfaction of citizens and customer's needs is essential. This work involves some physical assertions such as recurring standing, climbing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, crawling, reaching, or similar activities. Employee also works diligently to provide solutions for customers and citizen's needs relating to code enforcement.

This position requires a mastery of all codes and ordinances under the jurisdiction of the City of LaGrange. No supervisory functions are associated with this position, except as may be required by the Superintendent or Director from time to time.

The employee in this position must be proficient in the application of all municipal and state codes and ordinances related to the work areas assigned.

Necessary Requirements

  • Associates degree from a college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience in construction industry
  • Local government regulatory experience
  • Possess a valid State of Georgia driver's license
  • Be in good physical condition

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of city codes
  • Knowledge of all aspects of building, zoning, flood management, trees, subdivision, erosion and sedimentation control, unsafe building, environmental enforcement, sign regulations, fire regulation, proposed and adopted by and for the City

Desirable Training & Experience

  • Graduation from a college or university within a Bachelor Degree in Building Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of local government regulatory experience
  • SBCCI Certification in Building, Fire, Plumbing, Housing and Electrical Inspections
