Employee in this position provides managerial and administrative support to the Water Superintendent. Duties include scheduling work, evaluating employee performance, training and safety, communicating with customers, preparing reports, and other duties as assigned. Employee will be involved in both distribution and filter plant operations and report to the Water Superintendent.

Examples of Work

  • Manage the Water Division in the Water Superintendent’s absence
  • Supervises up to 30 employees
  • Coordinates and schedules employees to ensure adequate staffing of all shifts
  • Assist in preparing budgets and capital plans
  • Stake new projects, schedule multiple crews, and prioritize work
  • Develop and enforce proper safety and operating procedures
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state laws and regulations
  • Ensure that customer complaints are properly resolved
  • Regularly visit job sites to review work procedures and methods
  • Coordinate efforts with distribution and production supervisors
  • Complete required reports
  • Maintains inventory of chemicals and materials necessary for the operation of entire water system
  • Manages and evaluates performance of Water Plant equipment to maintain optimal performance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of surface water filtration plant operation and maintenance
  • Extensive knowledge of distribution standards and procedures
  • Ability to organize , set priorities, and meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to make quick, sound, and safe decisions
  • Skill in handling customer complaints and finding solutions
  • Ability to use job specific computer hardware and software
  • Ability to evaluate and maintain Water Plant performance
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule multiple crews and task

Necessary Training & Experience

  • Four year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • State of Georgia Class I Operator Certification (or reciprocal certification from another state)
  • Five years of experience supervising employees
  • Ten years of experience working in the water field preferably with experience in both treatment plant and distribution operations
  • Extensive knowledge of water plant equipment, chemicals, procedures, and operation techniques.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Possess a valid Georgia driver’s license
